We Support...

Each year we choose a good cause to be our official charity partner for the next 12 months. It’s important to us that every charity we choose to support is something we believe in and is close to our hearts.

This year, we have chosen Marie Curie to be our charity partner for 2015. Having supported Marie Curie since October 2013, we have already raised over £76,000, and we aim to raise a further £100,000 by 2016. In order to make sure we hit this target, we will be taking part in fundraising activities throughout the year, as well as holding in-store collections and donating our bag levy to Marie Curie.

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading charity for people with any terminal illness. The charity helps people living with a terminal illness and their families make the most of the time they have together by delivering expert hands-on care, emotional support, research and guidance.

The charity employs more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals. It has nine hospices around the UK, offering specialist round the clock care, as well as Marie Curie Nurses who work day and night in people’s homes, providing hands on care and vital emotional support.

Poundworld is a family-run business, so we want to help support families affected by the tragedy of terminal illness. Just like Marie Curie, our stores and staff can be found in towns and cities across the UK, and we want to do our bit to help those local communities. By partnering with a national charity like Marie Curie, we can ensure that the money raised goes towards helping people all over the UK.

We have already committed to four key fundraising weeks, during which our staff will dress up to raise awareness of, and money for, the important work that Marie Curie does. To find out when these scheduled weeks will be taking place, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages and please feel free to come along and help us to support this amazing cause.

If you have questions about terminal illness and looking for support, Marie Curie is here to help you and your family. You can call the Marie Curie Support Line on 0800 090 2309 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)* or visit Mariecurie.org.uk/help.

You can also visit www.community.mariecurie.org.uk to share experiences and find support any time of the day or night.
